I grew up in a very small town, population 9000.
I went to university in Guelph, which is a city with a population of 200,000, but has a very small town feel to it.
I now call Ottawa/Gatineau my home. Its city living, but pales in comparison to where I’m hanging my hat for the next couple of months.
Hell0 BIG CITY!
A big part of me would be lying if I said I wasn’t completely overwhelmed. It will take some time for me figure out my surroundings, but the other part of me is thrilled to be here.
I think the hardest thing for me is not having a car here. I know there is absolutely NO need for one, but for things like groceries it would be much easier to just to Google a store and drive over there.
Speaking of groceries, I NEED to locate a grocery store. I am craving produce in the worst way.
Next best thing: Subway. Buffalo chicken on brown.
With baked chippies.
I didn’t manage to sneak in a workout today, but I promise to get on that tomorrow.
I think I might watch a little Y&R on demand, and finish unpacking.
Until next time!

Welcome to my town :)
You're a short walk over from Kensington & Chinatown.
You can find cheap & plentiful produce there all. the. time.
Otherwise you're stuck with Rabbas and a Longos, I think. BIG stores are a bit of a trek for you.
Welcome to Toronto!
Welcome to Toronto!
I know what you mean when you say that Toronto is a little overwhelming. I grew up in Scarborough and have recently been attending Graduate school in downtown Toronto. At first it was a little much to handle, but you quickly learn to love every moment of being downtown.
Whereabouts are you located? I could suggest some good grocery stories.
Ohh and Fresh at the corner of Bloor and Spadina is a great vegetarian restaurant :)
Enjoy the big city life!
Welcome, welcome! It won't take long for you to get grounded and enjoy the perks of being downtown. I live uptown now, but when I lived downtown my roommate SWORE by grocerygateway.com for groceries rather than trying to walk with them or take them on the streetcar or subway.
I don't know what Goodlife you're planning to go to or what your membership details are... but the Goodlife at Union Station is a platinum (or gold or whatever... it's a special gym) and the usual all club membership doesn't cover going there (at least mine doesn't). Just wanted to give you the 'heads up' before you go there or something!
yawhoooo! Congrats on your big move. I can totally understand the overwhelmed feeling. I grew up in a small NB town and living in toronto was such a change. can't wait to see you navigate the city.
PS- Guelph makes me so nostalgic!
Wow! Scary but exciting. I'm sure that there will be a lot of great opportunities and things you can only find in the city that will make it totally worth it!
Welcome to Toronto. Before Mat leave, I worked down town in Toronto. If you need ANY help just ask. Looks like you have a few readers from Toronto already. Either way ... It wont be long till you feel comfortable. GREAT town!
Congrats on your move!!! Good luck figuring out new surrounding, make it a fun adventure :)
Looking forward to hearing about all your adventures in the big city!! :)
Enjoy the Tdot.
If it is a total pain, have you looked at GroceryGateway.com?
Kensington Market is awesome as well.
*hugs* You're gonna be just fine girlie, you'll get the hang of it all. Go meet up with some Toronto bloggers and get them to show you the ropes!
Hiiiii Amy! Welcome to T.O !!!
So excited to know one of my favorite bloggers is in my city! lol ( im sucha nerd! haha)
if u need any suggestions for restaurants or anything else, im glad to help or show you some great places :)
Welcome to Toronto!
I live 40 mins north of it and find it very overwhelming when I go there!
Enjoy it!!!
Big Cities are fun! Settle down and enjoy the time!
I'm sure there will be tons to experience and I can't wait to hear all about it!
Good luck living in the Big Smoke! My hubby was born in Montreal but spent his teen years in Toronto. I am from a small"ish" town of approx. 30,000. Thank goodness we agreed that we did not want to live in a big city!
I hate to be one of "those" people but I have to point something out. I too went to UofG, now work there and have lived in Guelph for almost 20 years (how did that happen!?). The current population is just under 120,000 although if you include all of Wellington County it is around 200,000.
You should come for a visit while you are living in TO. You would not believe how built up it is - especially the south end.
I do agree though that it has a great small town feel and makes you appreciate trips to the big city even more!
Girl you are going to be just fine! I still live in a small town and I grew up in an even smaller one, but if I can go to London for a week and feel like I'm at home, you will be fine. Can't wait to hear how you are doing. *hugs*
I didn't know you were from Smiths Falls. SF is currently my town. I grew up in Ottawa (Nepean).
Have fun in the big city.
Oh, awesome! I love Toronto! I grew up in a small-ish city (there were 30,000 people, but it was very small-town feeling) and moved to Chicago 11 years ago -- it was slightly overwhelming at first, but in a good way. It doesn't take long to adjust to big city living & really, a lot of the fun during that adjustment is the exploring and discovering!
Hi there, I just stummbled upon your blog! I am actually from T.O and now live in Ottawa! And what do you know?... I also went to U of Guelph for my undergrad. Graduated in 2002. Love your blog, keep it up. I am in the process of trying to loose the last 10 pounds of baby weight pit on with my forst baby (he's now 7 months old).
