The sweet smell of.... LISTERINE.

Of late, I've had this random greasy patch of hair at the crown of my head. You may not know this about me, but a "dirty head" totally grosses me out. The first day I noticed it, I just thought that I hadn't rinsed out my shampoo enough. After a couple of days, it was still there. So I decided to stop using conditioner. Again, still there.

Yesterday I Googled it. Turns out A LOT of people have this exact same problem.

The suggested home remedy? Wash with a clarifying shampoo, followed by adding 3 capfuls of Listerine to your scalp/hair.

I picked up some Listerine last night on my way home from the gym, and tested out this home remedy.

My initial thoughts:
"Hmm, this is weird"
"Wow, it feels kind of good on my scalp"
"OWWWWWWWW!" *when I got Listerine in my eye*
"I smell like an alcoholic"
"Shit, I wonder if this is going to strip my hair color"

After a good rinsing, my hair was left silky and smooth with no traces of a greasy residue at the crown. SUCCESS!

Later on in the evening I was laying in bed, and ALL I could smell was Listerine. But didn't think much of it, just thought my sense of smell was in overdrive. Let's be honest here, Listerine does NOT smell good.

Fast forward to this morning. Spin class.

As I start to sweat, the smell of Listerine is becoming more and more prominent. The lady beside me starts looking at me with a "What the hell is that smell" look on her face

I start panicking, thinking "Ok, maybe I do wreak like Listerine".

Class finishes, I wipe down my bike and sprint to the shower and proceed to wash my hair twice.
I proceed to the make up counter and start blow drying my hair when a nice woman turns me and says "I've been smelling Listerine all morning."

I politely replied (read: lied directly to her face) "Oh, I'm sorry. I just brushed my teeth"

So my friends, if you are ever suffering from a random patch of greasy hair, my advice to you is this: Although Listerine may leave your greasy hair silky and smooth, be prepared for ridicule that will follow.

BAHAHAHA! OMG! Hillarious. That was a great post. I laughed through most of the post. Not to take it 'there' but sometimes when I get some gas in spin class I worry that people will look at me with that look.

Hilarious! I never would have thought that there were multiple applications for mouthwash. Bravo for your bravery!

That's funny. I guess there are now seven benefits to Listerine (eight if you call smelling fresh like Listerine for days, a "benefit")!

Hahah that is too funny :) It reminds me of this one time when I was still in elementary, lice was going around my class. My mom was terrified I would get it and heard that vinegar was a natural solution for it. Needless to say, I had to endure lots of comments the next day from friends.. scarred me for life :P

OMG one of my paranoia's is smelling weird/bad and not knowing it. I would cry! But then I would laugh - it's pretty funny lol.

Haha! That's pretty funny.

Neutrogena Anti-residue once a week usually takes care of things like that for me. I usually use it on my deep condition day.

Glad to hear that you're squeaky clean again.

Bahaha! That's so funny! At least it's gone ;)Totally reminds me of my mum putting mayonnaise in my hair when I was in grade school and she was afraid I was going to come home with lice. I have always hated mayo and having it saturating my head for an hour...I swear I was smelling it for days afterward and wanted to BARF!

lololol that is hilarious!!

I suffer the same problem so I just don't use conditioner.... I stopped using it this summer and I haven't even missed it...

Now that we are headed back into winter I might welcome it back...

Wow that's interesting. I never would have thought to use Listerine! Question: Did you use it more than once and if so DID it strip the color in your hair?
