Dear Amy...

Dear Amy,

Everyone in a while, we have a heart to heart and this one is long overdue.

Back in January, we got all hung-ho for the X-Weighted National Challenge. We rocked the first few weeks losing 12 lbs.

Needless to say those 12 lbs are back, plus a couple more.

We have lost and regained those exact same effing 12 lbs 234049345 (that number is for you Adam!) times.

We workout daily, but clearly also eat alot.

We read a lot of blogs, and salivate daily at the yummy (and not necessarily healthy) foods that other bloggers are eating, and think "If they look THAT good and eat that much, we can too."

But you know what? We cannot each like that. We have to pay attention to my portion sizes, sugar consumption, and carb intake. (To my blog friends: Now before you go all crazy on me telling me that carbs are necessary, yes I'm aware of that. And yes, I eat carbs. I just can't eat a kazillion of them in one day!)

We need to get back to basics. Tracking. Eating less sugar. And most of all getting rid of the "its not that bad" mentality.

The "its not that bad" mentality is where we get into trouble. For example: Smoothies and B'fast Cookies. Yes, there ARE good for you. They're filled with nutrients, veggies and fruit. However, these little guys pack a pretty big punch in the calorie department. Just because its good for you dosn't mean its calorie free. (please note, I'm talking to myself here.. not preaching!)

We need to get back to being conscious of portion sizes. We have not been diligent about this AT ALL lately. A "glug" became a tbsp, "3 scoops" became a cup, "half a bowl" became a serving. Its not hard to see why there has been a slow creepage of the scale.

We know how to do this, we just have to buckle down and do it dammit.

Hugs'n'kisses,

xoox

Way to get "real" with yourself.
You have the skills, girl!
Can do.

I hear ya. No doubt you'll do it!

The good news is that you know what to do and know HOW to do it. I think sparkpeople will help you a lot!

I think you should start posting your portion sizes on your blog so we can all see and help you keep accountable :)

Amy,
I love reading your blog, and I also love that you are so real. I joined your challenge last summer and sent a very encouraging email to me telling me I could do it. I too have slipped up many times, and shake my head. I need to be accountable and back on track just like you. I just wanted to take a momment to let you know this time that you can do this too!
Thank you for always being real.

Dear Amy,

You are a rockstar and you will be back to your rockstar ways SOON!

For what it is worth...I am in awe of all that you do on the exercise side of things! I wish I had your dedication when it came to that.

Thanks for sharing your struggles and showing us all that we all slip up and it is ok as long as you pick it up and get back on track!

Have a great week!

Thank you!!! this is exactly what I need to see right now! Personally, this is also the reason we all read the blogs, yes the food ideas are great, but even better are the words of wisdom that hit home.

I had to look twice to see who's blog I was reading. Sounds like a letter I shoul have written to myself. I've lost count of how many times I have lost and gained the same 10 - 15 lbs.

I wish I could be as dedicated as you are with your exercise.

You'll be back on track in no time!

You can get back on track! I know you can do it.
It's hard, trust me, I know first hand!

I hear ya on all that! You can and will get back on track! :)

kudos for being so open and honest with yourself. It isn't easy!! Keeping working at it, portion control is BY far my biggest issue....it's just so hard sometimes!

cdshorts said...

Hellz yes about the portion control! I suck ass at keeping my portions in check. I've also had those same few pounds that I am constantly fighting with! Those bastards! My big weakness is late night carbs. Is it me or do carbs taste magically delicious at night time?

Dude, apparently it's confession day around here. Nice. Down with calorific portion sizes!

Thank you for this post. I know it was a letter to yourself, but I found myself nodding along and mentally doing the check off of the things I've been letting slip through the cracks (ahem, portion size, ahem)

Thanks for being so honest in your posts :)

Wow, that is pretty "to the point".

You know, life just gets in the way of our goals at times. But sometimes we reach other goals while we are off track our main goal....

So life is funny that way, but with your drive and knowledge, you will get there.

Thanks for your message, it made me understand that exercise alone cannot do it all, we also need to take count of what we eat.

Good job, you woke me up :)

I think your letter was meant for me also. Way to go. I needed that. Since Easter I have lost track of everything. Food, exercise, portion control etc., I can do this and so can you. Thanks.
