I had a day of pure sloth and gluttony yesterday. I didn’t get out of my PJ’s or even shower for that matter. Needless to say I was looking forward to a clean slate this morning.
I went to the gym. I did 30 mins on the elliptical and Body Combat. I was feeling great at the end of my workout. I certainly didn’t make up for the damage I did yesterday, but it did make for an EXCELLENT start to the day!
I had to do some grocery shopping today, so I decided to hit up the Goodlife location that is on the second story of Loblaws.
As I was leaving, there was an elderly gentleman using a cane to walk up the stairs. I was heading down the stairs, as he was walking up. Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed him starting to fall backward. Somehow (I have no idea how I managed to get over there fast enough) I was able to drop all my stuff and catch up. He was very heavy, so I couldn’t really lift him up to the top of the stairs. I told him to grab the railing and pull himself up. Luckily he was strong enough to do that, or I’m not sure what I would have done. I walked him to a table to get him sitting down and asked if I could do anything for him. He was kind of embarrassed I think, and told me he was “too stupid” to take the elevator. I sat with him for about 5 mins to make sure everything was ok. Its still haunting me hours later, thinking of what COULD have happened had I not been there. I guess I was just as the right place, as the right time right?
I arrived home and had a salad in a glass. In the blender: Unsweetened vanilla Almond breeze, OJ, Amazing Grass, yogurt, banana, spinach, FF cottage cheese and frozen strawberries. YUM.
After we put the groceries away, we decided to hit the road to bring Jersey to doggie paradise. The roads were BRUTAL. Sometimes I think she’s a little too spoiled, especially when we risk our lives to let her run! Ah well, we walked for about 45 mins and called it a day.
When I got home I wanted a hot bath to warm up.

HEAVEN. I love having a deep soaker tub!
No bath is complete without my furry fan club. Sam loves to be in the bathroom when I’m in the tub for some reason. Freak!
I got some bad news this weekend. My step-sister/step-brothers Grandmother (whom we always called Gramma T) passed away on New Years Eve. Gramma T was a wonderful woman and welcomed my Dad, brother and I into her family immediately… which is kind of strange when you think about it. My stepmom’s first husband passed away and he was an only child… so my stepbro/sis were all Gramma T had. Andrew and I will be attending funeral tomorrow and it will be a sad day for all, especially my step sister Clare who was very close with her grandmother.
I was very close with my Grandmother too.. so tonight I made a meal that always makes me think of her. Porkchops cooked in mushroom soup. Not very gourmet, but very tasty!
While I was in the tub, I discovered a recipe in the WW magazine for Shredded Maple Brussels with pecans. I was able to use my new gadget MIL gave me for Christmas. Fellow Canadians, I’m sure you’ve seen the Home Hardware commercials for this:
It worked grrrrrrreat, and the brussel sprouts were awesome too!
My meal, displayed in front of a picture that I’m so thankful to have. Gramma and Nanny. Gramma essentially replaced my Mom after she passed, and there is not a day that goes by that I don’t miss her. Luckily Nanny is still with us! :)
After dinner, I made some cookies that were also featured in the WW magazine. Jersey was lucky enough to enjoy the PB jar when I was done. She loooooves peanut butter!
Thats all for tonight. Am I the only one that’s thrilled the holidays are OVA?
Back to routine tomorrow… weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Wow - that man is really lucky that you were in the right place at the right time!!
I am sorry to hear about your GrammaT. :( I think what you did with your meal is a nice tribute to her!
This might be a little weird, but Im saving that picture of your tub!! It is EXACTLY what I want!! Do you guys have a stand-up shower somewhere else in the bathroom??
PS Our dogs love PB too....I think they would skip a weeks worth of meals for a spoonful!
Thank god you were there to help that man! I'm sure his family thanks you too! If he were my grandpa - I'd be VERY grateful to you!!
Your day sounds great with all the activity and the food!! You're starting the year off right (a day of relaxing and a day of activity! Relaxing IS necessary after all!).
I am so sorry about the loss of your Gramma T... I hope you find the strength you need to get through the next few days.
You totally ARE a hero! Scary to think what might have been. :S
Also, I have to say, I LOVE porkchops in mushroom soup -- Totally reminds me of my family too. Sorry to hear about your Gramma T.
so sorry for your loss Amy, what a great tribute you did for her and how lucky was that man to have you there.
I agree, thank god you were there!!! Way to go Amy!!!
Charlie always gets the leftover PB jar as well! He loves it - he holds it between his paws and has a look of pure bliss on his face! I love it!!
I really want to get one of those snipper thingys!!
Sorry to hear about Gramma T...that's terrible...
I hope you feel really good about what you did for that man on the stairs. Not too sound to "out there" but you were his angel yesterday. I mean, the fact that you stuck around to make sure everything was okay too. That's so great.
Your tub is the bomb by the way.
Is that WW recipe mag on racks right now? I want it!
Sorry about your Gramma T. I'm sure she'll be very missed. I hope the service is a beautiful one.
I'm sorry to hear about your Gramma.
Glad you were in the right place at the right time!!
I need to get back into a routine. The weather has really ruined my plans these past few days and I'm planning on going to the gym tonight.
Sorry to hear about your Gramma T.
I'm happy to know that my cat's not alone in his fascination with the bathtub.
Is the WW magazine still on newsstands? I'm jonesing for some new recipes!
PS - This is nanookie_08 from the WW boards/Sadie's friend. :)
I love having 'An Ode to..." dinners! They really keep they memories alive... and traditions!
The right place at the right time for sure! Who knows, maybe he needed to talk with someone that day. The circumstances that got you to share a few minutes with him were crazy, but maybe it happened like it did to for a reason... Good job! I hate to think what would have happened had you been a second or two earlier or later. Timing is everything....
Hello Amy, wow you are right on track for a healthy lifestyle!
Reading your blog, I noticed that we have similar pets, I have two cats and one looks very similar to your black beauty, we named him Mr. Tux as it seems like he has a tuxedo on, and my dog is a big black lovable lab who also loves peanut butter :)
You inspire me to get my butt moving..thanks I needed that!

I had a weekend of sloth myself. I got sick, and I think part of me needed to just curl up and watch 30 Rock for many days. I guess I od'ed on the holidays!
BODA weight loss
I second that feeling of being thankful that the holidays are over! I have been doing well, but still... the temptation of noshing on cookies and candy always seems to be there during the month!
That salad in a glass looked positively delicious!
I am sorry to hear about your GrammaT :o(.

I'm so sorry about your Gramma T, but I love the idea of a tribute meal. I have some special recipes of my Nana that always make me think of her when I make them.
Thank goodness you were there to save that man from a bad fall. I'm sure he is counting his blessings for your help.
Happy New Year!
Hey Amy can you give me the exact recipe for your salad in a glass..."Unsweetened vanilla Almond breeze, OJ, Amazing Grass, yogurt, banana, spinach, FF cottage cheese and frozen strawberries", like what is unsweetened vanilla almond breeze and how much, same with orange juice, amazing grass???
I took a 40 minute walk at 3:25 today in the freezing rain, and all because you inspired me :)
I'm trying to create an account but not sure how, can you help?
Thanks,
Manon from Ontario
This is a test to see if my account works...thanks
Just wanted to let you know that I love your blog.
Question though, where did you get that WW magazine from?
Phew - you ARE a hero!
So sorry for your loss. Sounds like Gramma T was a really special lady. Big *hugs* to you!
I'm sorry to hear about your GrammT. Thank goodness you were there to assist that man.
