Almost there

My boss is on holidays right now. It is literally sucking the life out of me. I’m trying to put on a brave face to ensure those around me that I am capable of doing the work… but man, I am stressed to the MAX.

I ended up working late, which made me miss my spin class. I opted to take my 4 legged friend for an hour long walk when I got home, followed by a full body workout done outside.

Andrew worked late, so I had a nice dinner for one.

Veggie burger, asparagus, cucs with hummus, a handful of baked BBQ kettle chips. Served along with a diet pepsi, some H20 and a little Sookie Stackhouse. I’m catching up to you Jaime, almost done book 2!

Desert was a homemade blueberry muffin. Recipe is here. I added some coconut to the top, and it was delicious.

IMG_1478

I was supposed to take tomorrow off. Not happening anymore. Boo.

Have a wonderful evening!

A word…

15_week_challenge

…about the 15 Week Challenge.

I want to sincerely apologize for not having updated the stats.

I am a horrible challenge leader.

Life is SUPER busy for me right now.

This weekend is devoted to the challenge. I PROMISE!

You are all doing a fantastic job, and despite the lack of comments from me, I check your blogs DAILY! Please bare with me… there is a light at the end of my tunnel of chaos.

Costco has sushi, who knew!?

After a great 50 min run on the hamster wheel tonight, Andrew picked me up and we headed to do some errands. We went to Costco to return the flooring we didn’t use, and low and behold there was a sushi stand set up.

Dinner crisis = Solved!

Best part is, it was super cheap compared to the grocery store!

There was a lot of buzz in the media today about tanning beds being carcinogenic, even going as far as to compare them to arsenic!

Scary stuff indeed.

I wish someone would have told me that about 7 years ago when I tanned just about every other day.

000_0466 000_0437

hope (9) 000_0452

Any tanners out there? Is this warning enough to make you stop?

Sorry Andrew

My awful clients forced me out of the office and I ended up at the eeeevil place.

Skinny cinnamon dolce latte, reduced fat banana loaf and a venti ice water. I love drinking water out of those cups.

**I say "Sorry Andrew" because I spent our life savings on coffee**

No more Chub-Rub

workout wednesday

I love to work my inner thighs. I’m sick, I know!

Today you will do 30 of the following exercises.

Be sure to do 30 on each side for the exercises that only work on one leg.

This challenge is worth 1 point, ENJOY!

Quickie

Had a FANTASTIC spin class tonight…. I took a break from RPM and did a freestyle class. This instructor is killer. She focuses a lot on ‘no bounce’ essentially using your core and legs to stabilize yourself to take the bounce out of your pedalling. This KILLS my hip flexors. I’m sure I’ll be in agony tomorrow, but its a great class.

Another warm evening here in Ottawa, so we grilled again. Lean pork loin chops, zucchini boats, and potato/onion cooked in foil. Healthy eats, no dishes. LOVE IT.

IMG_1468

I also whipped up one of my favourite salads: Chick peas, cucumber, tomato, peppers, fresh basil, oregano, goat cheese, EVOO and balsamic. YUM.

On a side note, I’ve been eating a lot of beans this week and surprisingly my stomach is handling it quite well!

IMG_1460

I’m off to watch this weeks episode of True Blood. There may or may not be some fat free strawberry ice cream involved also.

Please note

I wrote that Twitter post last night when I was in a reallllllly bad mood.

Perhaps a was a little too negative.

Am I the only one who dosn’t really get Twitter?

I mean I get it, perhaps I just fail to see the relevance.

I kind of  find it a pain in the ass.

Seriously, tweeting in the middle of a workout?

And tweeting 3 times an hour?

Setting up a twitter account for green smoothies? Really? What could blended spinach tweet about?

Tell me why its beneficial… are people really interested that I went to Body Pump? That I went running? Maybe I’m writing the wrong things, but I’m just following suit?

Enlighten me. Please.

Hot day eats

Did you know there have only been 4 days in July that HAVEN’T rained here in Ottawa? Crazy!

With all the damp weather comes some crazy humidity. I didn’t feel like heating up the house for dinner tonight, so we grilled.

On the menu: Veggie burger topped with avocado, tomato, Sabra hummus, baby romaine and old cheddar, grilled asparagus and leftover beans. My meal tasted as good as it looks. Those beans are amazing!

IMG_1449

And on tap for desert: Strawberries, yogurt, a few cherries and some Kashi Go Lean for crunch. Am I the only one that kinds this cereal to be TOO crunchy? Its like biting into gravel!

IMG_1450

In other news… there has been a lot of feather ruffling going on in regards to freebies and blogs. Caitlin wrote and excellent post about it as did Kath.

What do you guys think? I get the product reviews. But I think maybe I was a little naive about some aspects. I had no idea that companies were sponsoring their travels, etc. Perhaps I’m a little green with envy on that issue but I am really glad that Caitlin explained herself.

I think a lot of blogs of late are becoming more of a business…  which to be takes the heart out of a lot of their writing.

Being a competitive person, naturally I want to make my blog as popular as theirs. But then I take a step back, and remember why I started this blog.

Its my story.

Its about sharing my success.

Its about sharing my struggles.

Its about sharing information.

And last but not least, its about networking. I love, love, LOVE the blogging community. I have “met” the most incredible, supportive people. For that, I am extremely thankful.

Say what?!

Today has been a rarity in terms of the way I have been living my life lately.

Why?

I journalled.

IMG_1442

I ran almost 7k. Mr Garmin’s satellite wasn’t cooperating.

IMG_1444

Speaking of uncooperative, enter Jersey the 60 lb golden retriever I had to DRAG for our entire run. She also kept stopping to ‘fake pee’ in order to get a rest. Cheater! Good thing she’s cute!

We are both tired and sweaty, but it was a great run. Yipee!

I’ll be back later!

Weekly Challenge – Week 5

weekly challenge

Alright guys.. back to the kitchen you go!

This week your challenge is to make a dish that features WHOLE GRAINS!

What is a whole grain you ask?

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wholegrains are cereal grains that contain bran and germ as well as the endosperm, in contrast to refined grains, which retain only the endosperm. Wholegrains can generally be sprouted while processed grains generally will not sprout. Wholemeal products are made from wholegrain flour.

Common wholegrain products include:

Get creative, do some research and get in the kitchen and whip up a delicious, but healthy meal!

This challenge is worth 2 points.

When you complete the challenge, don’t forget to comment on this post letting everyone know that you’ve participated!

Holy Busy Batman!

Do you ever have weekends when you’re thankful they’re almost over to you can go back to work for a rest? That was my weekend. Why?

Before:

IMG_1371 IMG_1366 IMG_1367

After:

IMG_1427 IMG_1426

New floors and paint. 5 coats of paint to be exact. We don’t really use our basement because well, we are only 2 people in our 1800 square foot home, and we don’t have enough furniture to fill it up! I’m verrrrrrrry pleased with the end result!

A big thank you to my cousin and his wife for helping out. They found out about the blog this weekend, so they could potentially be reading. Thanks guys! :)

Today was spent painting, therefore there was no gymbo. Although I suspect I will be sore tomorrow. Lots of up and down off a chair!

Started out today with a delicious bowl of oats. Toppings included: Flax, coconut, blueberries, pumpkin seeds, mini pb chips and a scoop of pb.

IMG_1420

Andrew wanted me to show you his slightly meatier breakfast!Leftover pulled pork. What a guy!

IMG_1421

Hey, some people have vegan dinner parties… but not at this house. Yesterday I made the most delicious pulled pork and baked beans and served it with coleslaw to feed our reno helpers. They were both FANTASTIC recipes, and I’ll be posting them later this week!

Alright, its waaaay past my bedtime. Must get some zzzz’s!

Night!

Good Eats!

Despite not posting my eats, I still took pictures. And what good are the pictures if no one gets to see?

Remember the Taco Salad I had the other night? I turned the leftovers into pasta! I sauteed some onion, mushrooms, peppers, yellow zuchinni and tomato, added the leftover corn/bean/beef mixture and added some salsa. A perfect sauce. I topped my pasta with FF sour cream, some guac and some tortilla chips for crunch. I mixed it all together and it was divine! The sour cream made it almost like a cream sauce. I shall call this dish “Mexico meets Italy” :)

IMG_1360

Its been raining for pretty much the entire summer here in Ottawa. Its getting to the point that everything in my house feels damp! You know the feeling when you’re camping? Thats how my house feels. I’ll be honest: I even turned the furnace on for a few hours tonight to try to get the dampness out.

Tonight’s supper was tomato soup topped with old cheddar and pepper served with a sammich made on a flat bun. Sandwich consisted of: Turkey, sabra hummus, guac, spinach and a slice of tomato.

IMG_1361 IMG_1364

Despite all the chaos currently occuring in my life, I think I managed to have an okay week.

Work outs looked like this:

  • Mon- Spin
  • Tues – Off
  • Wed- spin/abs
  • Thurs – 20/20/20 workout = 20 mins upper body, half a Body Attack Class*, 20 min run
  • Fri – spin/abs

* I only did half the class because I forgot my hat and I was sweaty profusely all over the place. Disgusting.

I best get to bed. Its late, and we have a big day tomorrow, Stay tuned for pretty kickass update with before and after pics!

Bad Blogger

Hi guys. I sincerely apologize for being such a crappy blogger of late. I put a lot of heart and soul into my blog, and lately I don’t have the time or energy to give it 110%.

I have a lot going on between work, workouts, baseball and other personal things. My evenings have been jam packed, literally on the go until its time for me. Unfortunately there isn’t a light at the end of the tunnel anytime soon, so please just bare with me. PLEASE.

My traffic has decreased quite a bit lately. That makes me sad. :(

Amy – 1 Exercise - 0

Yep. I am a slacker. I didn’t have any juice to make it to the gym tonight. I returned home and actually had a nap. Very odd for me. Not sure whats up with that.

I twittered about going for a run… but it didn’t do much. I am going to PROMISE you all right now that I will get up and go for a run tomorrow morning. I PROMISE!!

I made a rather excellent supper tonight. A healthified taco salad.

Baby romaine, baby spinach, red and green peppers, cucs, fat free sour cream, 1 tbsp guac, 1/3 cup extra lean ground beef mixed with black beans and corn. I like to ‘beef up’ my beef with beans and corn. Makes a little go a long way.

Prettied up for the picture.

IMG_1349

Mixed up for eating.

IMG_1355

Must go tidy up. We may or may not have a real estate agent coming over on Thursday night to talk about listing our maison.

Monday, July 20, 2009

Holy Yum!

My supper tonight was ah-friggin-mazing!

IMG_1348

Curry shrimp skewers, 1/2 cup rice, grilled asparagus and stuffed mushrooms.

For the mushroom caps I chopped the stems, added a little Kraft Fig Balsamic dressing and goat cheese. Stuffed them into the caps and grilled for about 10 mins.

The marinade for the shrimp skewers was EVOO, curry powder, lime juice, lime zest, cilantro and some light coconut milk. I think next time I’d add some S&P and some red pepper flakes… but it was delicious tonight as is!

Life got busy this weekend, so I’m behind on the Weekly Challenge results. I’ll have ‘em posted ASAP though.

Vivannos are tasty

Perfect way to refuel after a sweat laden spin class. Wooo!

Weekly Challenge – Week 4

weekly challenge

Alright challengers…. this weeks challenge will be more of an exercise for your soul then anything else.

Stay motivated in your weight loss efforts by giving yourself small rewards throughout the process. Break your goals down into smaller, more manageable chunks.

Looking at the big picture can often be intimidating. If you have a lot of weight to lose, realistically, it could be a long road ahead until your reach your goal weight. It is important to reward yourself throughout your weight loss journey to stay motivated.

First, set up your long-term and short-term goals for your weight loss efforts. These goals should be personal and focus on the things you need the most improvement on.

Long-Term Goals

Long-term goals are important for the big picture. You should have a vision of your final goals. What is your goal weight or size? What will it feel like when you reach this goal?

Examples of long-term goal rewards include:
  • A weekend vacation or cruise.
  • A new wardrobe in your new, smaller size.
  • Update your look.
  • A large piece of workout equipment.

Once you have this image of your end result, break it down into smaller chunks.

Short-Term Goals

Short-term goals can be all the bits and pieces that collectively bring you to your long-term goal. They can be related to weigh loss, food, exercise, water intake and other areas of personal improvement.

The key with short-term goals is to set small, achievable goals and reward yourself frequently. Create a simple chart to track your progress and watch as your rewards quickly add up, giving you another reason to stay on track.

Some examples of short-term goals are:
  • Reaching a weekly cardio limit.
  • Staying within your daily calorie range.
  • Drinking 8 or more cups of water per day.
  • Reaching a 5-pound weight loss.
  • Reaching a 5-inch loss according to a tape measure.
  • Creating and completing challenges.
Using Rewards for Motivation

It can be difficult to stay on track with your weight loss program if you feel deprived. Depravation often occurs when people cut back on calories and increase their exercise while working on lifestyle changes.

You have to break the habit of rewarding yourself with food. It will be easier to adapt if you put something else in its place.

Try using small rewards to stay motivated. The reward should be pre-determined and something you are willing to work for. Rewards should not consist of food.

Examples of small rewards include:
  • Workout clothes.
  • Running shoes.
  • A massage.
  • A manicure/pedicure.
  • A book, CD or DVD.
  • Dumbbells, medicine ball or resistance bands.
  • Costume jewelry.
  • Heart-rate monitor watch.
  • Craft supplies.

Soon you will work harder and stay on track because you will look forward to treating yourself to these rewards as you work towards your long tem weight loss goal.

Your challenge this week is to make yourself a list of:

  1. Short term goals and rewards
  2. Long term goal and reward

Blog about it, use pictures and leave a comment on this post so that others can see your goals.

This challenge is worth 2 points! :)

Weekend Recap

What a great, yet unplanned weekend. I love it when things just fall together.

Andrew and I went to look at houses outside the city. We found one that we absolutely LOVE. Now we have a lot of decisions to make!

We decided to stop by my cousin’s house… and well, when the boys get together it turns into a gong show. Needless to say, we ended up staying the night. Andrew and Scott got home at 3h40am. Scott’s wife and I were unable to drink. She’s expecting, and I’m on pain meds so we left them at the bar around midnight. Lots of fun was had by all, including Jersey. We brought her along with us to play with her canine cousin Sierra. No pics, sorry!

We arrived home around noon today. Started the day off right with a green smoothie, a cup of cherries and a homemade granola bar.

 IMG_1297

It was a beautiful day today, so I wanted to eat supper outdoors. All my flowers are looking gorgeous!

IMG_1301 IMG_1299IMG_1302 IMG_1304

Supper was grilled chicken breast, zuchinni, asparagus and corn on the cob.

IMG_1305

Our fur babies were quite happy to have their parents eating outside.

IMG_1308

 IMG_1318

This is the face Jersey gave me when I told her to go lie down in my mean voice.

IMG_1322

My hottie husband, enjoying some corn.

IMG_1327

Complete with H2O and some pain meds. Yes… I’m STILL puffy and in a lot of pain.

IMG_1328

Desert was delightful. Berries topped with vanilla yogurt (I’m eating a ton because I’m on antibiotics) and a drizzle of chocolate sauce.

IMG_1331

I’m gonna sign off… I have to do some 15 Week Challenge Prep and hit the hay early.

One more Jersey pic for you! How cute is she?

IMG_1332

Looking forward to a new week. I’m also looking forward to working out… I didn’t do ANYTHING this weekend. Trying not to feel guilty about it, but its hard not to!

GOODNIGHT!
