Group FIT Training

I’m embarking on yet ANOTHER 5 weeks of specialized training. This time in the form of Group FIT Training, taught by the wonderful Carolyn.

Group FIT Training is basically group personal training. Its a little bit of everything; cardio, weights, kickboxing, core work etc.

I had my first session on Monday evening.

It started off with a fitness test. The first part of the test, we had to do as many Sit Ups, Push Ups (toes only) and Burpees as we could in one minute.

The second part of the test was a cardio drill, something similar to what you’d see on X Weighted.

It went a little something like this:

  • Sprint one length
  • 20 burpees
  • Sprint one length
  • 20 lunges (knee all the way to the ground)
  • sprint one length
  • 10 wall jumps
  • sprint one length
  • 10 body drops (entire body including chest to the ground)
  • Sprint 2 lengths

I ran it in 2m34s, but OH MY GOD was my heart pounding when I was finished. I see people doing the body drops all the time on TV and always thought “that's not hard, what's the big deal?” The big deal is, I’m chubby… and its hard to get my body weight  up and down!

We finished off the class with a full body workout with dumbbells and some core work. I loved the workout!

Afterwards, I did the unthinkable. I let Carolyn take my measurements! I really wanted some incentive to see changes this time around and what better way to see the changes on paper. I haven’t had my arms measured in quite some time and I was sickened when I saw that my arms were 13 inches. Puke.

Some of you may be wondering why I’m taking this class when I’m a member at Goodlife. Well, the answer is simple. Goodlife doesn't offer anything quite like this. Every class is completely different and will shock my body. Don’t get me wrong, I love Goodlife… but the classes are VERY repetitive. Group FIT will keep by body guessing for sure.

I’m really looking forward to the next 5 weeks.

Sounds great. I am a member at Goodlife but I still run/spin/core with our running group..more accountable I find.
Burpees bite.

you are seriously hard core girl! I can barely do burpies never mind a minute of them and then full body drop, seriously? this sounds almost boarding on cruel ;0)

Good for you for working outside the box, it's always a good thing when we shock our bodies. Sounds like you are in for a fun 5 weeks!

I LOVE how you are mixing it up - and I dont know much about this but I have heard that keeping your body "confused" helps achieve results!
You are a total rockstar, Amy!

Boooooyah!!!

OMG she made us to those body drop things last night only she called them football drills. One set was:

1)low rapid running on the spot like a football player(whatever that's called) for 3 sec.
2)squat for 1 sec.
3)low rapid running on the spot for 3 sec.
4)sit for 1 sec
5)back up and low rapid running on the spot for 3 sec.
6)lay down on your full backside for 1 sec.
7)back up and low rapid running on the spot for 3 sec.
8)down on full body front for 1 sec
9)back up and low rapid running on the spot for 3 sec.

and that was ONE rep!! We did like 10 of those and I kinda hurt my wrist trying to push my body weight up so fast. It's hard when you're chubby!

I can't wait to see if this class will help YOU improve your fitness. You're in such good shape it will take ALOT I bet!

Can I ask what a burpee is?

Begin in a squat position with your hands on the floor in front of you. Kick your feet back, while simultaneously lowering yourself into a pushup. Immediately return your feet to the squat position, while simultaneously pushing up with your arms. Leap up as high as possible from the squat position.
