Tell me what you think about ma blog!

question mark twn

I have been blogging now for almost 4 years. Crazy!

I must preface this post by reiterating that I blog purely for both my readers and myself. I have a rewarding, full time career that keeps me crazy busy and have no intention or desire to make blogging a full time career.

However, I am really envious of those who are able to make blogging their job and I am slightly jealous of the bigger blogs that seem to have taken off overnight.

I would some feedback on my blog.

Good content? What is great about it? What is horrible? More food porn? More exercise related posts? More Jersey pics? Post frequency? More day-to-day activities? Daily menus? More pics?

TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK!

I have thick skin and will be able to handle the good, the bad and the ugly. If you want to realllly give it to me, feel free to post anonymously if you’re not comfortable.

Even though I’m just lowly little Canadian blogger I still want to make sure I’m keeping my readers interested.

Hi Amy, I read your blog daily, but have never posted. I live in Halifax and was thrilled that you spent Thanksgiving here! I like blogs that come from YOU, what YOU feel like posting, not what the readers want to see. You have a good overall mix. I prefer the food posts and generally skim over the exercise posts. But I wouldn't change a thing if I were you. Oh, except one little thing, I don't like your dishes that you serve your meals in - haha, I hate Corelle. Just go buy one nice, solid colour plate and bowl. But the contents of your food pics always look great. Just keep on doin' what your doing.

I love that your a Haligonian at heart! I live in Lake Echo (on the other side of Dartmouth).
I love your blog because you are very much honest about your writing. It gives me a great motivation to know that you can do it. I'm currently the girl in your before picture. Your last post struck a cord with me. Right now sitting here, at 10am in the morning and I could very easily eat a bag of chips right now. I don't because I know what it will make me feel like. I also eat the way you do 80% great but that 20% of not great tends to get me in trouble.
Keep blogging....you are motivation to many!!!!

I can't say that I need more of any one topic from you, I like that your open and say it like it is.

I check your blog daily, Love your brutal honesty! I like that you dont blog full time, your more like the rest of us working and struggling to maintain our weight!

I just emailed you my comment. I went off into a novel-style fashion.

Bottom line: there's something to be said about not conforming although I struggle with it every day. It's tough balancing between what readers want to see vs. not conforming to something that isn't what you would normally want to do on here. We are the grammas in this "niche" of the blogosphere kinda aren't we!

I love it just hoe it is, I always love food pics and recipes...but no major changes needed I think

You are on my Google reader. I have never commented. But I love your honesty and that you seem like a real person who struggles and succeeds. I also kind of like that you have a normal job and can't just work out at 10am if you want; you face more struggles of us 'normal' people. I always like to see what meal ideas you have and love pics of Jersey! Pictures make it interesting.

Girl, you are one of the first 3 blogs I ever read like 3 years ago! Along with a lot of others...and we're still here so you must be doing something right!!

I can't think of anything I don't like. I like that you vary your posts (a little bit of life, food, exercise, etc.). I also like that you don't let yourself get away with anything (although sometimes you seem a little TOO hard on yourself; I guess we all do that sometimes).

I think that the bloggers who's blogs are "big" are that way because of a few reasons.

1. They post EVERY DAY and on a regular basis.

2. They are very real and admit to their faults. Honestly, since reading food blogs (yours included) I feel MUCH better about my own lifestyle, mistakes included.

3. They network. They attend a lot of conferences, use social media to network etc.

4. A lot of them are writers. I've noticed that a lot of the big-time bloggers are actual writers in there full-time career, which I think helps them with their writing and style.

All that being said, I really like your blog and don't think you need to change anything :-) I'm also not saying you DO or DON'T do any of the above things, just those are things I've noticed about the "big" blogs!

Well, it seems all the Haligonians are following you! (Well, actually I'm an ex-Haligonian who now lives in Moscow...long story.).

I love the fact you're Canadian, and more importantly, you are proof that it IS possible to be successful long-term in this crazy battle with food and weight. Not to mention you're now an avid exerciser!

You, my dear, are proof that we can beat the odds. We CAN take off the weight for good

Morning Amy, I love the blog. It is down to earth and honest, thats what makes me come back for more. It nice to be able to share in your weight lose journey and life. Thanks for the inspiration.

Why I love Amy's Blog:

1) She is my friend and we don't live in the same town, so I am cheating on the friendship by reading the blog by staying up on here life I am a bit addicted!

2) your so honest, I love your co-worker stories.

3) and as evil as this sounds, I like when you sometimes don't have good days, because it make me feel like someone so motivated and positive as you can have bad days too, I will make it :)

4) I want to hear more house selling stories, but that isn't really related ;)

he he

I can't believe it has been 4 years, wow, time flys!

Your content is great. I feel like over the few years I've been reading, I know you - even though I rarely comment. You're one of the first blogs I hit every morning, plus I use your blogroll to visit my other favorites! I personally think out of all the food bloggers out there - you are the realest. I like that you don't write what you think people want to hear, you write what's real. That type of honesty, I'm sure, is why you have as many followers as you do. I would vote you as the "blogger I'd most likely hang out with in real life". Those big name food bloggers are fine, but it's like reading a magazine. I think it loses some of the personal feel when you become a blog who's name is dropped all over the blog-o-shere. I just can't relate to those bloggers some times. I like your style of writing. The only thing I would recommend is getting someone to professionally design your site. You need something that pops! :)

I love your blog.

Like Jaime, yours was one of the first blogs that I ever started reading. I knew much about you, before we ever became real life friends.

Don't change a thing. Your blog is a great reflection of you. It has it's up days, it's down days, and is very real. I think that's why you have so many loyal readers...you're relatable, and people love you just the way you are...even those who haven't had the pleasure of knowing you in 'real life.' Don't change a thing Ames...just keep on being you, because that's who we all love.

I like reading your blog very much. Some of the pro-bloggies have changes their tone as they become famous. Although trust me, I still love reading them and am envious too!
I love reading about real people I can relate too. You are great!

Fatinah said...

since you asked:

I like when people share pictures of their life

I do not like when people post picture after picture of food. I find I tend to scroll quickly through and often end up losing touch with the writer which leads to deleting the blog from bloglines for me.

I've been reading your blog for a long time. I like it.

Hi Amy, I have never commented before, I don't have a blog myself so am kind of shy about it. I love your blog though for the same reasons it appears that everyone else does, you are real and honest and down to earth. I am Australian so that all appeals to me! I lived in Canada for a year so I love reading Canadian blogs, it takes me back. Keep it up, Heidi

I think you are great!

You have the right mixture to have me coming back.

I love that you don't sugar coat anything.

Another Haligonian here! Your blog is one of the first I check every day. I spent a couple of evenings reading it from the beginning. It is a blog that is about YOU and truly YOU. I know that I, for one, want to read about how real people deal with real solutions on their journey to health and fitness.

I'm new to your blog, so I don't have a ton to say, but I can tell you that I appreciate your honesty. I don't really have any complaints, but I will say I wouldn't mind a bit of color =-) I'm a visual girl! And food pics are always fun!

Okay, I know I commented yesterday, but who knows where it went.

I feel like I know you, and like I've known you forever. It's so funny that most of the blogs I follow are the same ones I've read for years. And you are in that club.

I love your blog. I love Jersey. I love your veggie-filled meals. I love that your exercise routines make me feel like crap (most days) and challenge me to get my act together.

This girl from Kentucky loves you just the way you are. The short posts, the long posts, the kicking-yourself-in-the-ass posts, LOVE LOVE LOVE.

And that's all I have to say about that.
