A word on calories

Not only does Booty Camp provide great workouts, but my instructor Carolyn sends out some wonderful informative emails. I got this one today and with her permission, I’m going to share it with you guys!

To maintain a healthy body weight, the average woman needs about 2000 - 2100 calories per day. Now in order to lose weight you have to create a calorie deficit - you have to burn more than you are taking in. The recommended caloric intake for a woman trying to lose weight is apx. 1500 - 1800 calories depending on your height and starting weight.

One pound of body fat equals to 3500 calories so in order to lose one pound of body fat per week you need to burn/trim 3500 calories over the course of the week. How will you do that? By cutting out about 250 calories from your daily food intake and by burning off about 300 calories from exercise per day (that's the easiest way). It's alot harder to cut 500 calories straight from food so if you cut from food and burn with exercise you'll lose weight faster and keep it off longer!

***don't forget it works both ways...add 3500 calories in a week and you'll add a pound of fat to your body!***

What does 250 calories look like?
One Subway chocolate chip cookie (ONE!)
One small Tim Horton's Ice Cappuccino *if you ask for it made with milk that save you 100 calories!
Three timbits (each timbit has 80 calories!)
One small McDonald's French fries (small Wendy's fries are 340 cal)
Tall Starbucks Vanilla Latte
Pizza Pizza one slice of pepperoni pizza

What do these "daily spurges" look like?
One McDonald's carrot muffin - 430 calories!
McDonald's Bacon and Egg Bagel - 510 calories!
McDonald's raisin bran muffin - 400 calories!
Starbucks Caramel Frappucino - 400 calories!
Starbucks Strawberries and Cream Frappucino - 570 calories !
Tim Horton's honey crueler - 380 calories (most donuts in the 350 - 400 calorie range)
Second Cup "skinny" chocolate chiller - 400 calories!
Wendy's small chocolate frosty - 330 calories

What does 250 calories FEEL like?
30 minutes of high impact aerobics
30 minutes of jogging
30 minutes of swimming laps (continuously)
One hour of weight lifting
30 mins. Of bicycling
30 mins. Of elliptical trainer

I sometimes think that when I take my kids to McDonalds and have a happy meal.To start with happy meals are tiny... but yet the nuggets/fries/diet drink are 9 points... and yet I only earn 5 points doing 4 miles of walking the pounds off with Leslie (and 5 because I'm a heavy girl, less if I were skinnier!) So yeesh... all that work vs 15 minutes of food enjoyment, it sometimes does make you think.... will I however give up my occassional Skinny Caramel Latte (2pts)... I dont think so!!!! LOL
