Booty Camp: Day #1 Review

I’m still alive to write about Booty Camp, but Holy legs batman!

Booty Camp tonight was great tonight. I really enjoyed myself. It definitely wasn’t a “Oh my god, I’m going to die” type of workout… but it certainly did challenge me. As most of you know, I’m a bit of a cardio junkie… so I tend to slack off on the muscle conditioning.

Especially legs.

I totally have the “I run/spin.. I don’t need to do squats lunges” mentality. Well after about 100+ squats and lunges tonight, I’m certain I will feel the wrath of Carolyn tomorrow morning!

What I loved about tonight, was the diversity of the crowd. Young, old, thin, chubby. EVERYTHING. It was great to see so many people out to workout in a group atmosphere.

Tonight wasn’t very cardio heavy, but knowing Carolyn I’m SURE things will get more intense as the weeks go on. I’m looking forward to it for sure.

What will be challenging is adjusting to working out that late. I usually eat dinner around 8pm. RIGHT in the middle of Booty Camp. I will have to learn to adjust to eating earlier. As I type this, its 10:06pm and I’m eating dinner. Not to mention I’m WIDE awake.

This is what I’m mowing down.

Inspired by my lunch date with my beautiful friend Lisa. She opened up her container (we bring our own lunches to our dates) and it smelled delicious. I asked her what it was and she said “Fajita meat on cauliflower” and thats exactly what I concocted for my supper this evening.

I sautéed red/green peppers. onions, zucchini, with some extra lean ground beef. Once browned, I added a can of black beans and a can of corn. Added in some mexican’ish spices and voila. I served it over top of some steamed cauliflower and topped it with some old cheddar, FF sour cream and some cilantro. Light, delicious and fresh! Trust me on this one, it has all the flavour of fajitas without all the heavy ingredients… not to mention a kazillion servings of veggies!

Alright…. I need to get the kitchen tidied up and get ready for bed. I have a big interview tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Off topic completely: When at the grocery store tonight, I was perusing the ground meats. One caught my eye. I live in Quebec… so the french label read: Cheval Haché.

HORSE? Are you kidding me? This is the first time I’ve ever seen horse at a grocery store. Do you have ground horse at your grocery store?

Good luck!

Yikes - I haven't seen any horse for sale in Halifax or Toronto (but then again, I'm not really looking!).

You live in Quebec? Why did I think you lived in Ottawa?

There was a bit of a scandal here (Calgary) a few years ago because a supermarket was selling horse meat, pretending it was beef. They are allowed to sell horse meat, but not allowed to pretend it's beef, so they don't exist anymore (not a chain grocery, just an independent called Jay's Supermarket). Can you imagine? Ugh! I'm glad I never shopped there. Now it's a terrifying yet fascinating Asian supermarket.

ewwwwww...horse is just plain wrong!!!

Glad you like Booty Camp so far. I was worried that it would be too easy/boring for you...but I don't think that many squats/lunges can be boring for anyone! haha.

The only time I have ever seen horse meat is when I lived in Montreal. I mistakenly put some in my cart and (thankfully) realized my mistake before I made it to the check out line!

Ewwww ... horse at the grocery store? I know that's normal in some places, but for me it's just wrong. In my mind they're meant to be admired, ridden, cuddled - but not eaten. However I have no problem eating beef even though I think cows are cute. I guess owning horses I have a more personal relationship with them.

Adjusting your dinner will become easier in time.

horse meat is big in Belgium where I am from. It's much tougher meat, definately not my cup of tea, plus I like horsies to much to eat them... guess I don't feel as connected to a chicken a pig or a cow... least of all a turkey as of lately since I darn well live on it most the time LOL :)
