Twitter

twitter

Am I the only one who dosn’t really get Twitter?

I mean I get it, perhaps I just fail to see the relevance.

I kind of  find it a pain in the ass.

Seriously, tweeting in the middle of a workout?

And tweeting 3 times an hour?

Setting up a twitter account for green smoothies? Really? What could blended spinach tweet about?

Tell me why its beneficial… are people really interested that I went to Body Pump? That I went running? Maybe I’m writing the wrong things, but I’m just following suit?

Enlighten me. Please.

I personally have no desire to join twitter. I know a lot of bloggers have twitter but I just don't see the point. I write everything on my blog; I have no need for twitter.

An account for a smoothie, eh? I did enjoy a certain someone's follow friday where they listed their three other twitter aliases without being transparent about it...

But I digress.

Not everyone needs to "get it."

It's not a passive thing where you log in, follow people and sit and watch as the tweets fly by.

You have to listen, engage and interact.

People DO like reading about your runs IF there are running fanatics who are following you. The others just tune it out.

Facebook allows you to be a voyeur in other peoples' lives. Twitter does as well, but it's more about information exchange than status updates.

Share ideas, links, events, causes and get something back.

If there are few @s in your stream, then it's obvious you're not using it, but rather making it a FB status update.

I find that FB is really friends and family and twitter is business communities and connections.

I agree with marie, it's a totally interactive thing. I reply to peoples tweets that I relate to and probably one of my favourite things is sharing interesting articles and blogs with other people! I've found some VERY interesting articles through people's tweets!

I am interested to see what other people say about twitter as well, because I'm with you Amy - I don't get it!!

I find that with blogs and facebook and email I already have A LOT to keep up with and I don't think that my life is so interesting that people would care to hear from me 10+ times?

I'm slowly starting to "get it". I downloaded Tweetdeck the other day and that makes it easier to use for sure. Now it alerts me when someone I follow Tweets...which makes it more fun to reply in real time, etc.

Use it to promote your posts too. Add a link to each post you put up and other Tweeters will see it and check you out. :)

Even though I`m on Twitter, I do have strong opinions about it lately...along the lines of what you`re thinking. I might be back later but I don`t want to offend anyone. I`m interested in what people will have to say about this.

I saw someone tweet 15 times in an hour today....!!!!

I agree with Jaime, I've found it more useful since I started using Tweetdeck. It also gives you a seperate column where it shows you anyone who tweets something to or about you, so you get more of a conversation happening.

It took me awhile to get Twitter, it can sort of feel like you're just spitting updates into a void, but once you start using it to actually communicate with other people, it's kind of fun.

I am not a twitter fan. I find that I get stressed out with the amoutn of tweets that I receive. I don't have time to scroll through and comment on something that was said 5 hours ago.

I like the Facebook status thing. I can handle that.. and plus, I'm only seeing status from people I know.

I don't have a twitter account, nor do I plan on signing up. I just don't get what all the excitement is about! People don't need to know every little thing that you are doing throughout the day!!

I have an account but really i don't "get" it either!!

I'm with Amy. I don't see the point. I don't do Facebook either. I don't see the point. I like the blog I keep and that's about it.

Twitter does nothing for me, O spend enough time in my computers sphere - I don't need more distraction from real life!

I'm with you. Don't get it, don't want to. It's hard enough for me to keep up with my blogs and facebook. I can't let one more electronic, non-exercise activity take up any more time of my already too short days.

Girl I know what you're complaining about and I'm with ya. I think I'm going to stop following said tweeter.

I didn't "get it" at first and now I do get it. I use FB for family and "non blog" friends and I use twitter for blog stuff.

I didn't get it either, but do have a twitter account. Thing that I don't get is the people who are so into how many followers they have. There are marketing spammers all over twitter, as well as some pretty creepy sex tweeters, and I just block everyone who falls into either category. I'd rather have fewer followers (does anyone really care what I'm tweeting anyway?) than to know the creepies are following me!

i totally agree with you. especially about the twitter for a green smoothie. was totally thinking the SAME THING.

I'm addicted to twitter!

I have twitteriffic that updates every 3 minutes and flashes when someone I'm following makes a tweet. I love seeing what everyone is doing and what everyone has to say. I've connected on other levels with people. Serious twitter bonding to be had! lol

LOVE TWIT :)

The good thing about twitter is if you don't like it, you are completely free to not use it or to not follow the stuff you aren't interested in.

I skim through and pick out the good stuff, and am constantly unfollowing anyone who doesn't tweet content that I want to see. To each his own!

my 2 cents

i've been able to connect on twitter with people i admire... to reply to a tweet with my own though or sarcastic come back and have that person follow back or reply is pretty cool in my books. or to connect with people who are going through similar situations, like infertility.

people who might otherwise not have the time of day to acknowledge an email from a fan can do just that with a tweet back

no i don't think we need to know every persons every move... i see twitter as a chance to put down the thoughts/sarcasims/brain farts I have throughout the day.

I use Twitter strictly as my food/exercise journal. I much prefer typing in what I eat rather than carrying around a bulky journal/pen in my purse. People who follow me know that's my purpose, so they know my updates are all boring and "for me." I find it a great accountability tool!!

I have no idea what Twitter is, and never really bothered to find out.

It's an attention thing I think. I signed up for twitter for 1 whole day before deleting the account. Who cares what I am doing? I do. Why do I care if "everyone else" - whoever the heck that is - knows what I am doing 5 times an hour. It's making people feel special about themselves - self serving, selfish, and stupid, if you ask me.

You are not alone.

Great comments guys.. I loved reading them all.

I will say, I love following sports teams for all the inside scoop!

Maybe I'm seeing all the benefits because I tweet mainly from my blackberry and don't often login to actual Twitter to see whats going on in the world!

I don't know. I was really into it at first, then not into it, and now I'm into it again. But an account for a smoothie? That seems a bit lame. And twitting during a workout? That's not cool to me either. But everyone is different I guess but why take the time to stop while exercising to do that when you could be working out? right?

I ended up deleting my Twitter account due to a certain tweeter that was updating 5-10 times an hour. I know I could of just stop following them but I really don't see the point for Twitter.

I agree with you... I mean I have an account, I enjoy reading people's posts.. but to see someone constantly posting and filling up my screens with a play by play of their entire day, drives me INSANE. The person I believe was referred to in the OP posted 6 tweets in the span of 1 hr tonight..!!!
It annoys me the same as people who update their Facebook status constantly with extremely emo updates.
