Did you know there have only been 4 days in July that HAVEN’T rained here in Ottawa? Crazy!
With all the damp weather comes some crazy humidity. I didn’t feel like heating up the house for dinner tonight, so we grilled.
On the menu: Veggie burger topped with avocado, tomato, Sabra hummus, baby romaine and old cheddar, grilled asparagus and leftover beans. My meal tasted as good as it looks. Those beans are amazing!
And on tap for desert: Strawberries, yogurt, a few cherries and some Kashi Go Lean for crunch. Am I the only one that kinds this cereal to be TOO crunchy? Its like biting into gravel!
In other news… there has been a lot of feather ruffling going on in regards to freebies and blogs. Caitlin wrote and excellent post about it as did Kath.
What do you guys think? I get the product reviews. But I think maybe I was a little naive about some aspects. I had no idea that companies were sponsoring their travels, etc. Perhaps I’m a little green with envy on that issue but I am really glad that Caitlin explained herself.
I think a lot of blogs of late are becoming more of a business… which to be takes the heart out of a lot of their writing.
Being a competitive person, naturally I want to make my blog as popular as theirs. But then I take a step back, and remember why I started this blog.
Its my story.
Its about sharing my success.
Its about sharing my struggles.
Its about sharing information.
And last but not least, its about networking. I love, love, LOVE the blogging community. I have “met” the most incredible, supportive people. For that, I am extremely thankful.

First, dinner looked awesome! Second, I always check my teeth for fragments after eating Kashi Go Lean...that's why I only eat the wheat squares now. And last...I don't understand the whole 'product placement' thing in blogs, but then again, I'm new to this whole thing. I thought it was just to share thoughts. I do enjoy your blog and Caitlin's, and everybody else's I stumble across. Keep up the good work!
Amen friend!!!
I think we all want to have awesome popular blogs but you're right, story, your successes, your struggles etc. can become lost when there's so much going on. Do people want to read when every other post is a product review too?
I don't mind product reviews on blogs every once in a while - it's a good way to learn about products I wouldn't normally know about. But, when the same product starts showing up on a lot of blogs at the same time, I kinda tune out. I like the blogs that have heart and are more personal, and when they start becomming more of a product advertisement, I find myself losing interest.
I hear ya about the blogs although find myself jealous sometimes of the feebies that people get...
What is awesome though is the people that you have met...Ever think about doing a get together in Ottawa?? (---> just a few hours away in Kingston!)
The thing I hate is when people review things and aren't transparent about it.
But, people need to realize you're giving companies A LOT of free advertising. Don't accept EVERYTHING just because it's free and be careful what you choose to post on your blog to win free stuff.
If you write well and write about relevant topics, people will come visit you whether you're giving away ipods or just warm fuzzy feelings.
I know what you mean. I found a whole lot of inspiration from the blogs I've been following!!
Thank you for sharing your blog with the world!!!
I have just started blogging and it is such a great way to give and get support. Thanks for sharing yours with me and all the motivation that comes with it.
I agree with Carol the dinner did look awesome! I should get you to cook for me, especially on those hot days!
When I blog I use it like a journal, I say what I need to say. I will review a product if I have tried something new but usually I say either I like it or didn't... I think everyone who blogs, wants attention and to be read. Some do start sounding like advertisements and commercials.
I enjoy your blog and find it very refreshing. I'm getting tired of reading the same product reviews on so many blogs.
I like hearing about new products, but I prefer more of a "natural" approach where somebody just happened to discover something new on their own and are sharing it because they want other people to try it... not because of freebies or sponsorship.
I'm with you. I love blogging and want to continue to love it. But bottom line, it's my journal. Where I can come and write safely about me and my journey.
