Apparently I need a root canal, but can't get it done until the infection is gone.
This means treating it with antibiotics and getting looped on T3's in the interim.
Is this friggin' normal?
Seriously, I think this is the worst pain I've ever been in. I'm usually a pretty tough cookie.
T3's just aren't cutting it.

One of my wisdom teeth got infected because it was really impacted, and I was on antibiotics and T3's for a few weeks too before they could take them out....it sucks.
Now I have a loose bridge that suddenly starts to hurt so badly that it makes me cry....and I have a very high pain threshold!
Hang in there. It will get less painful as the infection clears up.
Oh, I was throwing up too from the pain...I'm keeping my fingers crossed that does NOT happen to yoU!
Oh no! I'm sorry, I hope you feel better soon.
I had this happen last year. It was about as far from fun as I could have gotten. I feel (felt) your pain!!
I could not belive it when I read this in my feed. I got an emergency appointment today since I was in so much pain. I barely slept last night. I too need a root canal but they cannot get me in until August 6. The dentist put me on Motrin and antibiotics. He said an infection will add pressure and cause it to hurt more. Also doing a root canal with an active infection is not a good idea. I feel for you.
Sorry to hear your pain. Can you believe I too am in pain!! I went to the dentist today too. I broke a tooth last week on Kashi Go Lean Crunch cereal. They did step one crown work. He did a lot of carving down on my tooth. I asked if it would hurt tonight. Oh your mouth will be sore. Take some advil. I'm on 2 now...it HURTs!!!!! I feel your pain!!
Hoping we can sleep tonight. Hoping your infection clears up soon!
I have BTDT and it is horrible! I feel for you!! I hope that your pain is better soon. Hang in there! Can you do a warm compress on your face where you are in pain?

Oh that sounds so painful! I hope you get bumped up!
I'm a dental assistant and yup, antibiotics are necessary. Working on an infected tooth risks the possibility of introducing the infection into the blood stream. Which is bad bad bad! :) You'll be feeling better soon. Hope your root canal goes quick and smoothly!
Have you tried to numb it with Orajel, also clove helps too.
Yes, it's normal. I had to do it last year. T3's don't do anything for me, either, unless I take three of them at once.
T3's are useless...at least for me, they are. When I had my wisdoms removed, that's what they gave me, and I ended up not even using them, prefering good old Advil. Still do, to this day.
Sucks about the root canal...I totally dodged that bullet last year when I had to have a crown put on a very broken tooth. My dentist asked if it was uncomfortable sitting with horseshoes up my butt, as the roots were still strong and intact. Hope it all clears up soon...
Aww darlin' that's brutal. I had an infection in my tooth in my first year of university (10 years ago) and I STILL remember the pain! It's frigggin brrruuuutal! I hope the antibiotics work fast for ya! :-(
I will be getting my wisdom teeth pulled in a couple of weeks & am not looking forward to it. :(
On July 2, I went to dentist because gum surrounding one wisdom tooth was infected (I suspect that popcorn was the culprit). He gave me antibiotics and told me to take Advil. Advil worked. The antibiotics kicked in pretty quickly, too, and the pain went away. The downside: antibiotics always trigger a yeast infection in me (sorry if that's TMI). I take antibiotics so infrequently that I always forget until about 2 days in to the antibiotic treatment! Every. Time. :(
I bought some Lactobacillus acidophilus at the health food store and the yeast infection went away
Ouch! I too have had a similar experience.(when I was prego, so I couldn't take regular meds) If you dentist says it's okay, I would take Advil to help reduce the inflammation from the infection. Good luck!
A friend of mine went for a root canal and has ended up in the hospital for three weeks now due to an infection(they had to put him to sleep for a week).I just hope the infection hasn't gone to his brain or heart.
This is not to scare you, just to let you know you do not want to go into root canal surgery with the infection. It honestly could be deadly.
Wishing you no pain and a smooth root canal(usually not a big deal for most the surgery)
Jeeze - that is not fun - good luck - hope you feel better soon.
Oh sorry to hear that! If it's any consolation, my boss recently got a root canal and he was all worried before he went it, but ultimately the actual root canal was not big deal. And he felt so much better afterward. I hope the infection goes away soon so you can get it done already.
Oh dear I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope everything goes alright.
xoxo,
Katherine
