This totally works for my body, providing the perfect combination of protein (for staying power) and carbs (for fuel)
This is going to seem like its becoming a WWer Board bashing session again today, but I don't intend it that way. There was a post recently by someone asking if they need to take gels because they hit a wall when running for an hour. I was kind of baffled, especially when everyone agreed that gel would be the solution.
I'm the first one to admit, I use gels/sport beans. I use them when I run anything over 14k and I begin to fuel at 50 mins.
Gels kind of go along with my post from yesterday. They are pretty much flavored sugar, so I like to avoid them as much as I can. I realize I'm some what contradicting myself, but whenevever possible I like to refuel naturally, for example, oranges.
I also try to avoid calorie laden sports drinks whenever possible. Not only for the chemicals, but because they absolutely reak havoc on my stomach. When I've used them in the past, I dilute them 3/4 with water...but its still never fun for my stomach.
Because I'm a very salty sweater I need to replenish the salt... so I'll often use diluted flavored water as it is very high in sodium. Its not exactly what I'd call natural, but its easier on my stomach and tastes delicious!
Okay, I must get going. What started out to be a quick fly by breakfast post turned into gel talk. I apologize if its not very educational and kind of half-ass.
And now a photo shoot of my all-star breakfasts!
Almond butter. Money saving tip: Buy it from a bulk store. MUCH cheaper! :)
Somtimes I like them open faced. It looks like more food that way!

Heaven.

21 days and I can have PB again...Until then I'll just be drooling on my keyboard!
PB & Banana is one of my all-time favorite foods and was a staple in my pre work out days. It was just what I needed to power me through a warm up run, weight training then another 30-45 minute run post weight train.
Not to mention all the benefits from getting me through the work outs, its just one of the best combinations I've ever tasted. That would be my breakfast today if I had any bananas.
I've never used a gel, but I've only ever run 10K 2x in my life, so if using you as a bench mark, I don't need 'em. I've used the dilluted sports drink (bleh). I can not find a liking for that stuff no matter what I do.
I'm crushing on your blog posts at the moment. You've been awesome in helping me mentally and getting my own head on right. Thank you from the bottom of my Hab lovin' heart.
Great job with the running!!!!
I love your blog and hope you don't mind me lurking. You are very inspirational.

You're a smart cookie ;-)
There's not many things on this earth more perfect than pb+nanner :-D Totally agree.
I just discovered on Saturday that you can buy almond butter at the bulk barn! Nearly fell over! They also have that apple butter I raved about the other day too!
In fact, I nearly fainted at the amount of organic items they have! The Bulk Barn = my new favourite place!
i think those girls on those boards are weirdos. they are so clicky and seems like all they do is hang out on those boards all day long. they even virtually drink together??? WEIRD!
I am totally going to check out the bulk food store. Thanks.
